David Loring was awarded his third Sunfish World Championship trophy today at the Nassau Yacht Club in the Bahamas. Loring, of the USA, narrowly beat Paul-Jon Patin (2nd) and David Mendelblatt (3rd) for the top prize. Also receiving awards were the brother-sister duo Phillipine Van Aanholt (top woman, 17th overall) and Ard Van Aanholt (top junior, 8th overall.

USA’s Loring Win’s 39th Sunfish Worlds

What a finish to the Worlds. The top 3 boats ended up separated by less than 4 points, with David Mendelblatt (3rd overall) and Paul-John Patin (2nd) winning the final two races. Day 4: Loring Holds Slim Lead Going Into Final Day

The big winds continued to batter the fleet at the 39th Sunfish Worlds on Thursday. USA's David Loring holds a 2-point lead over Venezeuela's Marx Chirinos. Four sailors are within 8 points of the lead. The top ten includes sailors from seven nations, making this a truly international championship. Look for tons of new photos here on Friday.

Day 3: High Winds Keep Fleet Ashore, new videos on Video page

Already a heavy-air regatta, the winds cranked up to another level on Wednesday, so the race committee decided to use the day as an off-day. We will race on Thursday.

Day 2: Loring Blasts Into the Lead, photos and results

USA’s David Loring, with scores of 5, 2 and 1, took the lead at the 39th Sunfish Worlds on Tuesday. The sun came out and the wind remained up, although not as strong as on Monday. Monday’s leader, USA’s Paul-John Patin, had another strong day and sits in 3rd. Venezuela’s Marx Chirinos is in 2nd.
